Vincent Salvatore Farricielli (Jimmy) beloved husband of Rita Sortito Farricielli for over 67 years passed away peacefully with his family by his side at CT Hospice on December 1, 2013. Born in New Haven on July 26 1923, Vincent graduated James Hillhouse High School, University of New Haven, and continued his education through the US Army education program. Vincent served in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1942. He then entered into a career with the US government, Department of Defense, as a quality Assurance Manager, which included US government purchases for the Army, Navy, Marines and Air force. His specialty involved overseeing the inspection process of weapons, Jet fuel, and other Government equipment ordered by the Department of Defense. He received numerous awards throughout his career for going above and beyond the call of duty.
Vincent was also chairman of the board of Farriciellis Flower City for over 40 years. During his retirement he enjoyed greeting the many loyal customers at the flower shop with a smile. His presence was an Icon there. Vincent was a very active man throughout the community. As a member of Saint Brendans Parish, he participated in the Men's Club, Bowling Team, also Amity Club, Sons of Italy, The Melebus Club, The Italian American Club, and so many other civic organizations. Vinny was an avid Pinochle, Poker and Gin Player. Also a loyal New York Yankee and NY Giant fan. Vinny was predeceased by his brother Salvatore Farricielli.
Vinny is survived by his sister Anna Farricielli of North Haven, and sister Annette (Dave) Delvecchio of Wallingford. His devoted children, Charlie Farricielli of East Haven, Richard (Lisa) Farricielli of Milford, Gina (John) Torre of Wallingford and Dr. Jeff (Ella) Farricielli of Myrtle Beach South Carolina. He is also survived by his seven loving grandchildren Peter, Ariana, Taylor, Casey, Vinny, Max and Matteo.
Above all Vincent was a cherished loved devoted family man and friend. Exuding a quiet warmth and a silent strength. He was known for his quick wit, calm temperament, and a love of life and family. He was the most amazing father and friend, he was a great listener and advisor, and will never be forgotten by his children and grandchildren for his amazing smile, we used to call it the Vinny smirk!!!! . During the latter part of his life he had very devoted care givers who loved him as he did them, Tasha Edwards, Johanna MacDaniel, Debbie Bruno, Sly Williams, Tasha Williams, and Denise Blair.
His funeral will leave the Iovanne Funeral Home, Inc. 11 Wooster Pl. Friday morning at 9:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Michael's Church at 10. Burial will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
